Yesterday, Paul Begala stepped into the lion cage at the circus called CPAC facing off with ring-leader and noted Hillary-hater Tucker Carlson. Responding to a question just about everyone who has ever met Hillary is asked lately (you know the question) Begala was speculating as to some activities she might be enjoying at the moment when an audience member offered that she might be getting a facelift. Begala had a quick response.
“No, not get a facelift. She’s not a Republican society lady, she’s a real woman.”
His reply ruffled a few sisterly feathers, but I am willing to cut him some slack. She is real, and beautiful, and no surgical tools need be anywhere near that face. Paul, after all, was in the lion cage. Of course he brought his pistol with him. The retort was reflexive and effective. It was a product of physical context. Better that he responded quickly and nipped it in the bud than had he sat there contemplating an answer that would have pleased everybody. You can never please everyone.
Today it was Mitch McConnell’s turn at the CPAC mike. Here was his witty contribution to the kill Hill sarcasm sweepstakes.
“Don’t tell me Democrats are the party of the future when their presidential ticket looks like a rerun of the Golden Girls…. They got Hillary and Joe Biden.”
Just wondering – is Joe Dorothy? Is Hillary Blanche? Not to belabor a point, Mitch, but she has not said she is on any ticket. One thing we do know is that she is golden, and their smart-mouth attempts at comedy, rather than tarnishing her image, keep her in the headers even while she hides out behind her keyboard turning out her next book.

Of course, given that old Mitch is several years her senior, we should just ship his sorry behind to Shady PInes. Hopefully, Ashley Judd will do that next year.

I think Sophia might object. She thinks he’s hot.

All I can say is that when certain TV hosts say Mitch resembles a turtle, I can’t disagree. He’s asking for it, especially when he dogs Hillary. Turtleface can lose to Ms. Judd any day, and I hope he does. As for Tucker… wait… he needs *another* chocolate shoe? Lordy. How many shoes can he eat?

Ya – well you know – Easter is coming. He probably has chocolate on the brain like a lot of other 6th graders.

There are times when I think I was the only life-long democrat, obsessed Hillary supporter at the time, who was really paying attention in the 2008 Primary Season. If memory serves me correctly, Paul Begala, a Clinton White House staffer, was a very outspoken supporter of Berack 0bama and against Hillary’s candidacy! To now hear many of you speaking in defense of him is almost more than I can take. Begala has continued to be a zealot 0bama defender for which he will never regain an ounce of respect from me. I suppose if you are a democrat first, perhaps 2008 doesn’t matter.

What support are you talking about? I simply cut him some slack vis a vis accusations that his retort was as sexist as the question.

We all remember 2008 very well. We have our own personal scars. I simply defended his retort. If it’s more than you can take, don’t come here. It’s simple. Like hitting a button on the remote.
I can’t speak for Begala. I was simply defending a comment he made while surrounded by CPAC.
Nothing is gained by living in the past. Look at the next entry (or don’t if it is going to set you off). Hillary has the world as her oyster right now.
I remember 2008 very well. But I do not live there. I don’t think Hillary does either. She is moving forward somehow. We just don’t know how, officially, yet.

Fran, Begal was a Hillary supporter during the 2008 primaries. He supported Obama once he became the nominee, but he’s a Clinton man.

I don’t know how the Republicans ever expect to win the women’s vote with their sexist and misogynist tactics. One thing is an asshat yelling something stupid at Begala, and another totally different thing is hearing a House Majority Leader spew sexist nonsense. The latter is far worse for his party.
