In his acceptance speech, Clinton also recounted a touching story about Chelsea’s birthday in 1980. “On the night she was born, I came home from Washington, D.C., from a governors’ conference. And Hillary’s water broke 15 minutes later,” he said. Upon arriving at the hospital, the Clintons were told that the baby was in a breech position and would have to be delivered via Cesarean section—and that fathers weren’t allowed in the operating room, he said.
The former president, who was the governor of Arkansas at the time, said he protested to the hospital staff. “If you send her into that room without me, I think you’re making a big mistake … I want to see my daughter born,” he recounted saying. Eventually, the doctors relented, he said. “They let me go in and hold Hillary’s hand. I saw Chelsea come out of the https://www.njnbi.com MRA room, and it changed the hospital’s policy on letting fathers into the delivery room when surgery was required. And from that day to this, I have believed without the shadow of a doubt that it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me.”

Today I presented my dad w the Father of the Year Award. In my totally biased opinion, completely deserved! http://t.co/AnpJ55qwK2— Chelsea Clinton (@ChelseaClinton) June 11, 2013
Love the hug!

They got so many awards they coudn’t count on it. 🙂
Very sweet – I love dad versions of birth stories! We kind of take for granted the dad in the delivery room/OR, but I know I was glad my husband was in the OR when I had a c-section with our last child. I freaking out and my husband thought the surgery was about the coolest thing ever, but without someone else there, you wouldn’t even be able to hold or really touch the baby the way you are positioned on the operating table. Not to mention the distraction you need when you realize that you are laid out there like a gutted fish.
I was actually just reading Hillary’s version of Chelsea’s birth in “It Takes a Village” – very grateful to the Clinton’s for the passage of the law that requires insurance to cover 48 hours for a vaginal and 96 hours for a c-section delivery. When my hospital was going to send me home on post-op day 3, I quoted that law and got my extra day. I needed it, because like Hillary mentioned in the book – you can barely get around 3 days after that surgery (let alone deal with all the other postpartum fun).
Thanks for posting Still. I saw this little clip on TV of Bill Clinton getting a text from Hillary. I wanted to read or see more of that entire Award presentation. Next week we will see more of them. By the way Pres. Clinton will be on Morning Joe on Friday.
They did an amazing job with Chelsea. In 08 when the media attacked her with the “pimp her out” garbage – both parents were clearly fuming mad beneath a diplomatic exterior. And Dorothy Rodham was a rock. They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway
