Families and children have been at the forefront of the issues Hillary Clinton has confronted for 40 years. The threats posed by the Zika virus have enormous implications for families and for society at large. Congressional Republicans have proposed an inadequate response that Hillary contends is senseless and dangerous. Once again, Hillary Clinton paves the way in front of a crisis and calls for an immediate, robust plan of action. Five people are left in this presidential race. One of them is a pioneer, and, as her husband reminds us, a change-maker.
The Zika virus, which has already spread through South and Central America and the Caribbean, has now infected a number of Americans. It’s a serious disease that risks the long-term health of children. We’ve got to step up as a country and deal with this right now.
SNIP
Why does Zika matter? In great part because it’s been linked to microcephaly, a birth defect where babies are born with too-small heads, often leading to severe developmental delays. The heartbreak that microcephaly can cause families is devastating. And babies with microcephaly require a great deal of long-term medical care. That’s something that many families and communities just don’t have the resources to provide.
That’s why we’ve got to stop Zika before it spreads any further.
There is a lot we need to do, and fast. First and foremost, Congress should meet President Obama’s request for $1.8 billion in emergency appropriations to fight Zika. The president asked for this funding over a month ago, but on Saturday, Congress will begin a two-week break without having allocated one penny.

I Donated this morning! Great photos and information! Thanks! MSNBC and CNN is filled with sanders folks pushing the Delegrate grab at the convention. Delegate grab being my words. His people are claiming he can win this and money is coming in. Of course no one says a word to question this fantasy. Secretary Clinton needs her people on the tv to at least give some facts to the true count and the near impossible chance. This is getting silly as there is no doubt that if secretary Clinton were down like sanders the calls for her to concede would be loud! The democrats need to come together against trump and let sanders do his thing. Sanders has to stop bad mouthing secretary Clinton straight away. He is a problem and will continue to be a problem. The media made trump and sanders. Now the democrats have to deal with both.

I wouldn’t worry about the delegate grab fantasy, dakota. It just shows how desperate they are. Delegates for hillary aren’t going to switch to a candidate who’s running far behind her in the popular vote and in pledged delegates. Not in a million years.

Thank you PTW! I wish just once someone in the news business would correct this kind of crap. If sanders was a Democrst and really did care he would concede given the math. Now secretary Clinton has to spend money and time on a guy stuck in the 60’s and 70’s. Soon trump will be free of all his opponents and I can only imagine what he will go. Maybe someone can shame sanders into leaving! Do not get me wrong, of course sanders has every right to stay in the race. I have a problem with him taking all that money from kids who have no clue! My high school students do not read as much as they should, so when adults see on the news sanders can win, they believe. So sad!

I feel like Bernie’s whole point in running was to push Hillary more to the left. By staying in he can bring up the issues he cares about and his millienial fans can keep funding his cause, otherwise he would do the math, concede and run as an independent. I am all for him staying in till June or even talking it to the convention and then going back to Vermont. No need to have another 2000 on our hands with an independent in the mix allowing a horrible choice to be elected president

I don’t see a real chance that Bernie would run as an independent. He would ruin his political career if he were responsible for Trump getting elected via a three-way race.

I really do not think he cares! Sorry to say this but I watched him during one of his interviews and I think his ego is so large he thinks it will translate into votes. He is not a democrat, period. Cares nothing about the party, period. I think he will do nothing to help Secretary Clinton. I hope I am wrong big time, but I fear I am right. Sanders cares about sanders! Looks like he likes the money! Not bad for a socialist !
