TORONTO – Former American presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told an appreciative crowd on Thursday that more women in politics is the way to overcome the sexism that pervades the political world, and that democracy is under assault.
The Democrat was in Toronto to promote her new best-selling memoir, “What Happened,” in which she describes her stunning loss in last year’s election to political newcomer, Republican Donald Trump, a man often criticized as a misogynist.
“The only way to get sexism out of politics is to get more women into politics,” Clinton, 69, said. “I want more women in politics so our politics is more representative.”

Hillary Clinton warned Canadians that “democracy is under attack” not just in the United States, but in Canada and around the world, and she told a Toronto audience Thursday night that she will do everything she can to fight against the forces trying to undermine it.
“Democracy is under attack everywhere. It’s not only my country,” Clinton told a packed hall of an estimated 5,500 at the Enercare Centre. She pledged to use her voice and platform to encourage people to get involved and help tackle the things that are challenging democracy in the U.S. and globally.
“I’m not going anywhere except right into the middle of the debates about our future,” she told the sellout crowd.

The event itself was tightly locked down. Men and women in black suits, many with telltale earpieces snaking up their necks, led media to a cordoned-off area and audience members to their places.
RCMP officers were embedded for Clinton’s protection, and maintained a low profile. Instead of their usual scarlet uniforms, they wore suits that blended easily with the crowd of about 5,000 — most of them women, who howled and applauded above Clinton’s comments, which ranged in topic from Donald Trump to HGTV.
After a musical opener warmed up the crowd, playing songs such as “Sway” and “Hold On,” Clinton’s appearance began with a set of opening remarks, which brought the crowd to their feet.
From the back of the room, one woman called out: “We love you!”

As a native Detroiter, I have spent many happy vacations in Canada which is just across the river. Canadians are the best, always friendly and helpful in sticky situations. I am not surprised that so many Canadians love and respect the People’s President.
On a sadder note, it has been more than a week since Puerto Rico was struck by a deadly Cat 4 hurricane. At first, it was possible to attribute the slow response of the Federal government to neglect and incompetence. It is now painfully obvious that something far more sinister is at work in the Trump administration, especially after Trump’s shocking tweet this morning suggesting that the island may not be rebuilt by the government. Puerto Rico may be the place where Trump’s racism aligns perfectly with his cynical opportunism. And still the media seems unable to truly call this out for the evil strategy it is. Instead of outrage there is merely complacency and whitewashing the obvious.

I did not approve this comment but wanted readers to see some of what I am getting via both comments and emails. Feel free to respond. I know my answer, since there is no question that my vote for Hillary was for her policies and not her sex.

Here is another one from the same person.
I am just guessing the “you” here is Ana Navarro, principled Republican. Note, she is saying she does not understand the tweet. She is not interpreting it.

This is OT for the post but hopefully not for your site overall. Is there any HRC approved donation site for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands? I just can’t trust the media that put the current grifter in as POTUS, nor their recommendations for contributing.

I’ve listened to many of the television interviews Hillary has given lately while promoting her book “What Happened?”. I especially enjoyed Rachel Maddow’s and Joy Reid’s interviews with Hillary. After listening to all the punditry the past year, I think Hillary has pretty accurately come to the right conclusions about the election. She’s no dummy and warned us of quite a few things that have turned out to be true. This election says more about us as a country than it does about Hillary Clinton, in my opinion. I don’t believe we are ready to elect a woman president and I agree that the Comey letter was the immediate reason for her loss. I also wonder just how far the Russia scandal goes. How do we really know votes were not altered? If the voting lists were hacked into in many states, what’s not to say there’s more? At this rate, nothing would surprise me any more. I certainly hope Hillary remains in the public eye and calls out all the b.s. she sees. I see her as the conscience of the country. I truly appreciate and like her. She was held to a much higher standard than anyone else who ran for the presidency. Her historic run wasn’t appreciated nor respected. Sad.

You are correct that there may be other voting problems. As you know, I am sure, when Jill Stein launched an inquirey, many illegal and fraudulent votes were discovered. Unfortunately, these rigged were votes for Hillary and so her loss was made even more. Then the investigation was stopped. Jill Stein pocketed a million dollars from the amount donated by her supporters.

Next, I suppose you’re going to say the 3 million more votes she got are rigged too.

No, that’s not a proven fact. You don’t need to be sarcastic.

Hillary had many provisional votes that weren’t even counted in Wisconsin, due to new voter suppression laws. Can’t let you get away with your alternative facts. And… on CNN today Rep. Spier, who is on the house intelligence committee said they can’t really be sure that the state systems were not hacked. That’s what the experts have told them. So stop trolling.

I am neither a bot nor a troll. I learned the term ‘rigged’ from your Lady and Mistress Hillary. In the beginning I really wanted to exchange facts with Hillary supporters, but I see you are not capable of that. I was a Hillary supporter myself and was very disappointed she lost to Obama. Then I saw her performance as Junior Secretary and as Secretary of State and the facts of her shady history and I changed my opinion, although I didn’t trust Obama at all. In the intervening 8 years I researched her her career, I actually cannot find one single thing she ever did to contribute positively to society. Being a female is absolutely not a reason. I hope you will one day elevate your standards for leadership besides gender.
