Brenton James, a young New Yorker, received his bachelor’s degree in economics, philosophy and politics from the University of Pennsylvania earlier this month. Like his fellow graduates, Brenton applied his keen intellect and studied hard to earn his diploma.
But unlike most of his U Penn classmates, Brenton’s early indicators hadn’t pointed to an Ivy League education. An African-American raised by a proud, single mom in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, Brenton faced the fears, challenges and low expectations that young men of color commonly confront.
We know that children need love from their parents, the support of their teachers and nurturing from a community that believes in them. But the challenges faced by young men of color require a special level of response. All too often, black boys grow up without their fathers, leaving a void that impacts their transition to manhood. They are left to face a hostile society, frequently feared, even in their classrooms as little boys where they are suspended three times more often than their classmates. As they get older, they have to wonder, “Can I meet a friend at Starbucks and avoid arrest? Can I rent an Airbnb apartment without the neighbors reporting that it’s being robbed?”
Can the Democratic party get a restraining order against Bernie and Jane Sanders? Please. They are going to f*** up another election if allowed to keep up the attacks on the party.
The Comms, Director for FLOTUS has told a reporter that the First Lady will not attend the G7 or Singapore summit. Then someone on Twitter tweeted that surely Trump would not be dumb enough to think that he could get away with killing his wife. Someone really will have to explain to me why it would be dumb for Trump to think he can get away with anything. He stole the presidency and is turning the U.S. into a fascist state. And he’s getting away with it.
And while Trump trashes our democracy, it’s time to re-litigate Monica and Bill because of course it is! We should at least get some basic facts straight before we try to shoe horn this sordid tale into a Me Too moment. People who were in pre-school when this actually happened TWENTY YEARS AGO don’t seem to know that Monica Lewinsky initiated the relationship, kept it going when he tried to end it, and had done the same before with a married professor while in college. She would do this again after being transferred to the Pentagon. She was a grown woman who fully chose to seduce older married men. None of this excuses WJC who should have sent her packing the minute she snapped her thong at him. His behavior was gross and wrong. But MeToo it ain’t. Let’s not infantilize a 21 year old woman because we think Bill Clinton is yucky. Americans younger than Lewinsky was in 1996 have died in wars. She was responsible for her actions and he was responsible for his. They both should have been ashamed. Both were held accountable, but Americans did not want Clinton to resign or be impeached. Read a book for heaven’s sake!
Now let us return to our regular programming trying to save our democracy. Seriously.
Lewinsky is trying to re-write the history she told in her own grand jury testimony by glomming onto MeToo. When Clinton didn’t agree with her ridiculous reassessment that maybe he did harass her in this morning’s interview, he was probably recalling the scene she made at the WH gate because he wouldn’t see her. Impossible for him to talk about her aggressive pursuit of him. But facts matter here. At least they should.
Someone should be crossexamining Trump like this, ffs.
And forcing him to resign was, of course, the whole purpose of the exercise for Republicans. It was, after all, Starr and his team of right wing religious zealots who actually DID abuse Monica. They never gave a damn about her or any woman. Really, Gillibrand needs to take a seat on this.

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway

Sad that the current Senator from NY had to make a statement yesterday, that Clinton should have resigned.
She is a real backstabber.
