Thank God for the tweets of BBC’s Kim Ghattas, traveling with Secretary of State Clinton, who tweeted this a little while ago:

Get on Chinook to #Kabul airport then 8hr long trip to Seoul #hillarytravel

So for the readers who expressed anxiety regarding reports we heard and read here about attempts by terrorists to target her or the conference, with any luck she is already wheels up and on her sparkly little multitasking way.

Great work Mme. Secretary!  We saw/heard you on TV!  Thanks for the wonderful work!  ESPECIALLY for explaining how the Taliban came to be!  Excellent!  Continue your journey safely.

More details have been released about the trip to Seoul that Secretary Clinton announced  on July 9.  Here is more on that story.

Clinton to pay tribute to Korean sailors

AFP

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defence Secretary Robert Gates will pay their respects to 46 South Korean sailors killed when their warship was sunk in March, a report said on Sunday.

Clinton and Gates are scheduled to attend a joint meeting of the foreign and defence ministers from the two countries in Seoul on July 21 amid regional tensions over the sinking of the Cheonan.

Hillary Rodham Clinton simply blows me away! Have I mentioned that today? She is always on-task, even with her only child’s wedding approaching (and the planning must be a nightmare given it’s THE CLINTONS). She never hesitates to do what is right. What a beautiful and sympathetic face she shows the world for us!

Thank you Madame Secretary for your dedication!

I am putting this up mainly for what is in bold (my emphasis).  I do not think the condemnation itself comes as a surprise to anybody,  but my goodness, she is going to Seoul again!  This month?  I posted something earlier this week about her moving her trip to Pakistan to an earlier date (July 18).  I wonder where Seoul fits on her calendar.    She was just there!  This picture is from May 26.  Well, as we know, President Lee is always happy to see her.

UN Security Council Statement on the Cheonan Attack

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
July 9, 2010

The UN Security Council’s condemnation of North Korea’s attack on the South Korean ship Cheonan sends a clear message that such irresponsible and provocative behavior is a threat to peace and security in the region and will not be tolerated. Attacks on the Republic of Korea are unacceptable and the United States joins the Security Council in calling for North Korea to uphold the Korean Armistice Agreement.
Today’s Security Council action underscores the unity of the international community and the reality that a peaceful resolution of the issues on the Korean Peninsula will only be possible if North Korea fundamentally changes its behavior. It must comply with international law and obligations, live up to its commitments in the Six-Party Joint Statement of 2005, and refrain from provocative behavior.
The commitment of the United States to South Korea’s security and sovereignty is unwavering. Later this month, I will travel to Seoul for further consultations with our South Korean allies. We applaud the Republic of Korea’s careful handling of this situation and we join the Security Council in again expressing our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this tragic attack.

Well, with the lovely Secretary of State closed to press coverage today, all we get is the abbreviated appointments schedule, and nothing new. A few readers have confided to me that they have either had a rough week or have been feeling sad. I would not be surprised if six months down the road we start hearing that clinicians found that right around now they began seeing evidence of a national trauma similar to what we saw after 9/11. Even when we are not consciously attending to the gulf oil spill, I am sure it is nagging at us all at a subconscious level.

SO! Long story short, people need at least a smile if not a flat out laugh, and readers here need their Hillary-fix because a shot of Hillary Clinton always makes us feel better and puts smiles on our faces. 😉

This is part one of series of “Photo-Oops” involving the adorable Hillary Clinton who somehow manages to get herself into some comical situations and also succeeds in prettily and gracefully extracting herself. I give you your Secretary of State in “Diplomatic Entanglements.”

In Beijing: Take the keys and lock her up,

My Fair Lady!

In Seoul: The World Cup of Handshakes

Here is where she knew she had a problem. No-no, Mr. President!
Only WJC gets to put his hand there!

But in controlling the situation, she  somehow lets it evolve into something even more intimate!

So while he doesn’t manage to cop a feel, he does get her chest up against him.
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
D.C. This week: This might have been just a camera-angle thing, but you have to wonder what his hands are doing!  (Not to mention how absolutely GORGEOUS she looked and her cute smile.)   What IS going on in this picture???

I hope I have brought a smile to some faces.  I shall try to provide more smiles and Hillary-fixes as the weekend proceeds.

This was a relatively quick but efficient stop, similar to her stop in Tokyo last week.  I have no text at all to share at this time.  No press releases, remarks, or the like – only these photos.  I am uploading them while I can since I can no longer do bulk uploads to wordpress from home. 😦

More smart diplomacy in action!  Enjoy the show!  To the SOS:  We love you!  Come home safely!

Among  the things we love so much about our Secretary of State are  the way she appreciates those who provide support to her important work and her efforts to reach out to the people in the countries she visits. It is not just Hillary reaching out. When she extends her hand, flashes her smile, it is in place of all of us. She is our face to the world, and it is an open, warm, smiling, and loving face. She makes us look good.

Below we see her thanking the staff that supported the second round of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Beijing, and having tea with women activists in Beijing. I am only guessing, but am willing to bet that a few of those women have known her for at least 14 years. Yes, she was well-qualified for SOS right from the start!
