Andrea Mitchell hosted a composed. direct, completely transparent Hillary Clinton this afternoon. I was happy to see Hillary take the time to explain very carefully the reason why the emails in question were requested in the first place. Hillary said that the government is having a hard time catching up with the speed with which technology is developing. All institutions have this problem It is multiplied by an enormous exponent for the U.S. government.
Andrea Mitchell was hospitable and objective, not antagonistic. She cleared away the email underbrush early and moved on to the campaign. Hillary wisely refused to contrast herself with Joe Biden who is not at this moment running. She made her position on the Iran deal very clear, as she once made her Senate vote on the Iraq war. That subject did not come up, but I like to remind people that she set very clear parameters for that vote. She is very careful in making such statements, was careful then, is being careful now – and she said she is being careful.
This was a nicely paced, well-modulated conversation. Andrea gave Hillary all the time she needed to answer questions as completely as she wanted to. She also gave her plenty of time to address the issues she is raising on the campaign trail.

Rachel Maddow will repeat the interview in full later tonight on her show.

She was very composed and on her game today. She seemed calm and ready for any question coming her way. Andrea Mitchell is Andrea Mitchell she needs to retire. She should thank Hillary for granting the interview. She was a star reporter today on all the networks.
Thanks Still for listing all the work this wonderful Sec. of State has done on Syria during her tenure.

Hillary cannot, in an interview do that rundown on Syria. If I don’t, I don’t know who would.
Andrea has been around her a long time. I thought she was respectful and gave Hillary her time. I also thought her questions were gently worded. Brianna Keilar is like an AK 47 in interviews. After what she did with Brian Fallon, Andrea was a breath of fresh air!

I was expecting a worse performance from Andrea than what we got, so I was actually relieved. Hillary was tremendous, of course.

I think the interview was a good one and was glad that Adrea Mitchell got it – she’s been pretty fair in her coverage of Hillary and fair coverage of Hillary isn’t easy to come by. I was glad too that the email situation was discussed more thoroughly than ever before – we now know that it was her lawyers who went through the emails, sorted them, asked Hillary if she wanted to keep the personal ones and she said no, delete them. I think this goes a long way in explaining the process of what and how, which can only help her. Had this been explained months ago perhaps this wouldn’t have turned into such a nightmare. Having said that, I do realize that whatever facts Hillary presents they will never be good enough for her enemies – they will keep wanting more and keep turning things around to suit their purpose: to take her down by assaulting her character and driving up her negatives. Hillary was patient, respectful of the questions, thorough in her answers, and less defensive than previously when answering similar questions. Overall I think it was a huge plus for her, which is good!!

Having lived through Whitewater, I know nothing will ever satisfy them. They will always invent some new “scandal.”
But it’s wrong to associate this kind of attack with the Clintons. Any Democrat will have the same experience. John Kerry was a war hero and a peace hero and a trustworthy person with years of admirable public service until he became the Dems’ presidential candidate and the Swiftboat virulence was unleashed on him.
Dems should expect this, and support their candidates, not hand-wring to the media.
