Hillary Clinton joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show last night for the first time since the campaign season when he hosted both her and her opponent, the well-known TV figure.
It was highly emotional from the moment Fallon brought on female staffers who wanted to write Thank You Notes (a staple on the show, but normally on Fridays) to Hillary. Miley Cyrus, guest co-host for the week, was the last in line and brought me to tears. Then Hillary wrote her own thank you note. It was touching, real. Unless you are a total dolt, you knew, watching this, what we have lost. But you also gained hope in what comes next because it is these young women and all they represented last night.
Fallon has taken a lot of flack for being too hospitable to Trump back in the general election. Perhaps this absolves him. I am not sure. But Hillary certainly knows him and knows he has two little girls. I had the impression that her advice to him, back when we were all so young and hopeful, to read to them, sing to them, talk to them, made more of an impression on him than DJT’s hair.
It’s too late now for Jimmy to rethink being even-handed or maybe even too playful and carefree when we were faced with a deadly serious choice. Did Jimmy redeem himself? I think Hillary allowed it. But I also think that the reason she was a guest this week was because Miley was co-host. When Hillary was on SNL, Miley was the guest musician.
The general impression was that a gang of women set Jimmy back on track. For him it may be too little too late, but for them it was their night in history. Powerful.
After Hillary’s appearance, Miley sang Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ dedicated to Hillary, and we all tweeted Nancy and said “YES!”
Update: Wednesday’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” featured Miley Cyrus, who was appearing as part of her “Miley Week” residency on the show.
It also featured a visit from Hillary Clinton.
One segment brought the two women together.
The segment involved Cyrus and writers from “The Tonight Show” penning “Thank You Notes” to Clinton.
Clinton also appeared for an interview on the episode, while Cyrus participated in two performances — “Islands In The Stream” and “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.”
A video of the “Thank You Notes” segment follows. Additional videos will be posted upon availability. Photos from the taping are also embedded.
This edges on snarky a little but is worth a look. We could have done without that “sniff.”
I couldn’t watch it all last night so this is great. What ever Jimmy Fallon’s reason for turning his show over to “a gang of women”, it was a wonderful thing to do, and I can’t imagine, say, Bill Maher doing it. Fallon’s no Jimmy Kimmel who has been heroic lately, but he’s trying to do better and be better. And I believe in second chances and the possibility of redemption.

It was wonderful to see. Finally, the Hillary voters get a little media attention, however late. It was heartwarming and the first time I’ve seen any appreciation of her historical run for the White House. Even the men in her own party felt very at ease criticizing her Election Day failure. This country has made such a huge, dangerous mistake.

Definitely the best segments involving a politician I can ever recall seeing. If Hillary Clinton wants to run in 2020 she should pal around some with Ruth Bader Ginsburg and ramp up her cardio the way the 84 year old Ginsburg has. Ginsburg has even released a workout tape.
The only thing that perplexed me last night was, were these some of the same writers who were unable to give Hillary Clinton more of an edge on Fallon’s show during the presidential campaign? Colbert wanted Sanders so badly you could see it through his tensed up face whenever he spoke of the Democrat Presidential Race. Colbert left subliminal cues, Fallon didn’t seem to give Hillary an edge, and Jimmy Kimmel only came out AFTER the election, when his own son was in peril. Just more men being men at Hillary Clinton’s expense.

Interesting. I think Colbert wanted Joe Biden. He gave him quite a platform. Fallon and Kimmel I thought were for Hillary but tried to not show it. I noticed definite gender double standards, from all sides, unfortunately. The woman has to prove herself no matter how much experience and preparedness. The men all think they are wonderful. They really have inflated egos.
