He just can’t get over Hillary Clinton.
Before giving U.S. military aid to Ukraine, President Trump wanted “nothing less” than for the European country to announce an investigation targeting Clinton in addition to one targeting Joe Biden and his son, according to a senior State Department official.
George Kent, a deputy assistant secretary of state for European affairs, made the bombshell revelation during his closed-door deposition on Oct. 15, testifying he was told that Trump used Clinton’s name as “shorthand” for the investigation he wanted President Volodymyr Zelensky to launch into a debunked right-wing conspiracy theory claiming anti-Trump Ukrainians interfered in the 2016 election.
Kent’s deposition, a transcript of which was released Thursday, marks the first time Clinton’s name has come up in the context of Trump’s desired Ukrainian investigation of the 2016 U.S. election. The mention suggests Trump wanted the probe to target the former Democratic presidential candidate one way or another.
Kent said Gordon Sondland, Trump’s handpicked ambassador to the European Union, had conveyed the Clinton message to him and other diplomats after speaking to the president on Sept. 7.

Special counsel Robert Mueller just indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers, accusing them of interfering in the 2016 US presidential election.
They are charged with hacking the computer networks of members of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. They allegedly coordinated to release damaging information to sway the election under the names “DCLeaks” and “Guccifer 2.0.” However, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told reporters that it’s unclear if their efforts changed the outcome of the election.
(Proof he’s an amateur or, really, a puppet. Experienced dictators know better than to leave home while a sh*tstorm is brewing. Even Putin knows Trump is in too deep and doesn’t give a fig. THAT should light a fire under some kettles.)
E. Randol Schoenberg’s initiative to see the warrant to search Anthony Weiner’s laptop for items other than those the original warrant sought was based on a sense that something was wrong.
“It’s more likely something criminal happened in the obtaining of the search warrant than… Hillary Clinton did something wrong,”
“I like tilting at windmills, and sometimes it turns out not to be as crazy as everybody thinks,” “Maybe I’m right that there’s some big story behind this, maybe I’m wrong…Sticking to your convictions, trying to think differently from everyone else is what I like to do.”
Schoenberg, known criminal attorneys for successful restitution to original owners of items stolen by the Nazis during WWII, has an instinct for concealed injustice – a great quality in a lawyer with the eyes of a watchdog.
Here is an article Randol posted on Facebook today after the warrant was finally released (h/t to Judge Kevin Castel in NY).
The search warrant that gave FBI agents access to a cache of Hillary Clinton emails just nine days before the recent presidential election was unsealed Tuesday. It shows that FBI agents obtained the warrant by telling a federal judge they believed the emails contained classified information that broke the law.
“There is probable cause to believe the subject laptop contains evidence, contraband, fruits, and/or other items illegally possessed in violation of [federal law],” reads the signed affidavit of an FBI agent, filed October 30 in support of the search warrant for the silver Dell laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner, the former congressman and estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
“There is also probable cause to believe that the correspondence between them located on the subject laptop contains classified information which was produced by and is owned by the U.S. government,” reads the heavily redacted affidavit for the warrant.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Schoenberg said the search warrant showed no probable cause that would justify Comey notifying Congress, adding that he was “appalled” by the lack of cause presented in the affidavit.
“I see nothing at all in the search warrant application that would give rise to probable cause, nothing that would make anyone suspect that there was anything on the laptop beyond what the FBI had already searched and determined not to be evidence of a crime, nothing to suggest that there would be anything other than routine correspondence between Secretary Clinton and her longtime aide Huma Abedin,” Schoenberg said in the statement.
Schoenberg also shared this articleon Facebook with portions of the warrant copied.
The damage is done and most likely cannot be undone. But to be able to see how the system worked possibly/probably to sabotage the popular candidate? Priceless!
Many thanks, Randy! We love you for this! The Resistance takes many forms and requires folks from all walks with a wide variety of expertise, skills, networks, and instincts. You, Randy, are one in a million – or probably more than a million. You Rock! Waiting to see what the next step is. We are dancing behind you all the way!
NEW YORK (Reuters) – A U.S. judge on Monday ordered the unsealing of the application used to obtain a search warrant that allowed the FBI to gain access to emails related to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s private server before the Nov. 8 election.
U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel in Manhattan directed the release by Tuesday of redacted materials used to obtain a search warrant after Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey informed Congress of newly discovered emails on Oct. 28.
If you saw the movie “Woman in Gold,” and I strongly recommend that you do, you know that as a young lawyer and new dad, Randy Schoenberg argued before Chief Justice Rhenquist’s Supreme Court and prevailed. He did this having given up his job and devoting all of his time, energy, and resources to helping Maria Altmann recover paintings stolen from her family’s Vienna residence by the Nazis.
So, I filed a lawsuit today against the US Department of Justice seeking immediate disclosure of the FBI search warrant for the e-mails of Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. As I explained in my blog http://schoenblog.com/?p=1008, I think we need to see what “probable cause” was shown for obtaining the search warrant, because whoever thought there was going to be evidence of a crime was obviously mistaken. And that mistake probably changed the outcome of the election. Journalists should contact my attorney Dave Rankin for more details.

E. Randol Schoenberg was confused when he read a New York Times article in the waning days of the presidential election reporting the FBI had obtained a warrant to seize new material in the Hillary Clinton email case.
“I thought, ‘What does that mean?’” he told the Journal. “Normally you have to show probable cause. That’s what it says in the Fourth Amendment.”

We thank him and applaud his effort. In a Gothamist article, Schoenberg says this.
“I like tilting at windmills, and sometimes it turns out not to be as crazy as everybody thinks,” he said. “[Maybe] I’m right that there’s some big story behind this, maybe i’m wrong…Sticking to your convictions, trying to think differently from everyone else is what I like to do.”
In the movie, Ronald Lauder tells Maria Altmann that her “schoolboy” lawyer is not equal to an argument before SCOTUS to help her retrieve family treasures looted by the Nazis. Maria tells Lauder that she will stick with her schoolboy. He succeeded. Perhaps he is right. Maybe this is a battle worth having. Maybe it indeed is not “as crazy as everybody thinks. ”
Go for it, Randy! (We hope you don’t mind us calling you Randy. Maria got us accustomed to that in the movie.)

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway
