Everything old is new again.  Hillary’s pretty sweater is not new. Actually, it is a Patagonia fleece. Don’t we all want to be able to wear what we bought a few decades ago?  Go Hillary!

Hillary Clinton Has Been Wearing This Fleece For 21 Years

And they say she isn’t relatable.

12/01/2016

A few lucky people hiking in the woods of upstate New York have recently bumped into Hillary Clinton and posted photos to social media. And according to the ever-lurking eyes of Twitter, the fleece Clinton wears to hike in those woods has been in her wardrobe rotation for the past 21 years.

Of the many photos people have posted over the past few weeks, one shows Clinton in a fleece your normcore dreams are made of.

Since that post, the internet has slowly but surely identified it as the same fleece she wore on a trip to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming with Bill in 1995.

The Huffington Post: Yes, and our group is growing bigger. We have a real crew now.

I think there should be some kind of badge of honor that you all put on.

To Restore Trust in Government, Slow Wall Street’s Revolving Door

Posted: 08/31/2015

One of our nation’s greatest strengths is that we are governed by each other — what President Lincoln celebrated as “a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

But increasingly, Americans’ trust in government is eroding. And a big reason for that is the so-called revolving door between government and the private sector.

Inviting outside voices into government is often a good thing. When public servants have experience beyond Washington, they bring new ideas, new perspectives, and new knowledge to the work of governing this huge, complicated country of ours. Some of America’s most dedicated public servants got their start in technology, business, academia, or other fields. Most of the time, that private-sector experience is an asset, not a liability.

But in some cases, it can affect the public trust — for example, if a public servant’s past and future are tied to the financial industry. That’s when people start worrying that the foxes are guarding the hen house.

SNIP

Tammy — has introduced legislation in the Senate to help close that revolving door. The other of us — Hillary — strongly supports this bill, and as president would crack down on conflicts of interest in government.

Here’s what this bill would do.

Chelsea Clinton With Marlo Thomas

Posted: 03/13/2014

I was so thrilled to have Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, as our very special 100th Guest on Mondays With Marlo. We discussed everything from her favorite memories of growing up in the White House, to her role in the Clinton Global Initiative University, to the prospect of her following in her parent’s footsteps by one day running for office. Chelsea is such a positive role model for young people everywhere, and I was absolutely charmed by her. Watch our full interview to find out what she had to say!

Chelsea Clinton Talks Growing Up in the White House Under “Very Firm” Parents, Says Marriage Is “Incredibly Important

Growing pains in the White House! Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton opened up in a new interview on Monday, March 17, about calling 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home during her teenage years.

“I was always deeply aware that I was living in history,” Clinton, now 34, told Marlo Thomas in an interview shared by Huffington Post. President Bill Clinton‘s daughter would arrive home from school and walk through the receiving room, which she knew was a special place. “But then I would have dinner with my parents at the kitchen table every night!” she said with a laugh. “There was much about my life that also was normal.”

Aside from all the obsessive polling and GOP strategizing over a candidacy that remains undeclared,  Hillary is making news rather than always having news made up about her.  While day one of her latest swing through California yielded not even a single twitpic (that I could find), it has caused something of a stir.

As a former secretary of state, she is expected to comment on current events and foreign policy from time to time.   When Secretary Kerry was forging his Iran deal, she remained silent while media folk clamored for a comment.  She has proven far less reticent on the unfolding situation in Ukraine and specifically more recently in Crimea.

Last week, at a conference in Orlando, she responded to a question about Putin’s plans and actions in Ukraine.  Apparently yesterday,  at a Boys and Girls Club fundraiser in Long Beach, she elaborated a bit on Putin’s latest moves in Crimea causing the ripple effect we see in today’s headers.

In early June, 2012, referring to the “avalanche” of news leaks that may or may not have originated in the White House, Dianne Feinstein used the word “Anchluss.”   Yesterday in California,  Hillary did not use that word,  but unmistakably was comparing Putin’s behavior toward Ukraine, specifically the autonomous republic of Crimea,  and conceivably his plans for other former SSRs  (keep an eye on Georgia and Moldova) to Hitler’s absorption of Austria (the Anschluss of 1938) and subsequent annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938.

Hillary did not compare Putin to Hitler.  She compared his behavior to Hitler’s in 1938.  It is an important distinction.  She was comparing tactics and their bases not personalities.

Report: Hillary Clinton Says Putin Behaving Like Adolf Hitler

Putin has justified the Russian incursion into the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea by saying that ethnic Russians there need to be protected from attacks.

SNIP

An attendee at the fundraiser, Harry Saltzgaver, a newspaper executive, told Buzzfeed that Clinton clarified that “while that makes people nervous, there is no indication that Putin is as irrational as the instigator of World War II.”

SNIP

Putin “believes his mission is to restore Russian greatness,” Clinton said, according to the report. “When he looks at Ukraine, he sees a place that he believes is by its very nature part of Mother Russia.”

It is unremarkable that a retired secretary of state might comment on a situation in which she has insight and familiarity.  That these remarks should have incited a flurry of mocking tweets is a concern since there is historical accuracy in what Hillary said, even if she used neither of the A-words.  We all knew (or should have) what she was talking about, and she is right.  It makes people nervous.

On a bright note, I thought I would share this little gem from HuffPo excerpted from Lisa Rogak’s “Hillary Clinton in Her Own Words.”   It has wonderful quotes and is illustrated with some cute and amusing pics and gifs.  Enjoy!

With November 2013 not even over yet,  Hillary Clinton leaves her successful fund raising for Terry McAuliffe and Bill de Blasio behind and moves on toward the mid-term primaries.  Her first beneficiary will be someone very close, according to HuffPo.

Marjorie Margolies represented Pennsylvania’s 13th district from 1993-1995.   She lost reelection after casting the final and deciding vote to pass President Clinton’s 1993 budget (as he had asked her to) despite her opposition to it.  No one should have any doubt about the value the Clintons place on loyalty.  Those up for reelection who never paid dues in the past need to take note.  It may take more than running over to Ready for Hillary or signing a letter to get a Clinton on your campaign bandwagon.  For now, at least, they are keeping it in the family.

Hillary Clinton To Reportedly Fundraise For Marjorie Margolies, Chelsea Clinton’s Mother-In-Law

Posted: 11/19/2013

PHILADELPHIA – Hillary Clinton will be appearing next year at a fundraiser for Marjorie Margolies’ congressional campaign in the Pennsylvania suburbs, according to Ken Smukler, who serves as a communications consultant for Margolies.

Margolies, who is Chelsea Clinton’s mother-in-law, is locked in a Democratic primary campaign against a strong progressive, state Sen. Daylin Leach, as well as two others. Margolies served one congressional term in the early 1990s.

Longtime Margolies fundraiser Linda August, who attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding, also confirmed Clinton’s upcoming appearance.

“Hillary said from the beginning that she was not going to be political this year except for McAuliffe and family. She is scheduled to come in six months before the election. She is coming in just when we need her,” said Smukler, who also serves as spokesman for the local Democratic party. “The Clintons are doing this for themselves as much as for Marjorie. They can’t have a family member lose a race for Congress six months before she is gearing up for a presidential election.”

While some of us were watching Margaret Thatcher’s funeral this morning, from which the Clintons, the Bushes, and the Obamas were all notably absent, on another channel President Obama was talking to Savannah Guthrie about his former secretary of state.   Proving that he has mastered the fancy footwork involved in dancing around Hillary Clinton 2016 speculation,  Obama accomplished a creditable sidestep on the Today Show as HuffPo reports.

Obama Misses Hillary Clinton, But Says ‘She’s Earned Her Rest’ (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 04/17/2013 10:34 am EDTPresident Barack Obama couldn’t avoid questions about Hillary Clinton potentially running for president in 2016 during a recent interview on NBC’s “Today” show.

Speaking with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie in an interview recorded last week and aired Wednesday morning, Obama steered clear of assuming anything about Clinton’s White House plans. But he also appeared happy to praise his former secretary of state, who departed the administration earlier this year.

“Do you miss her around here?” Guthrie asked.

“I do,” Obama responded. “She’s earned her rest and I know that she’s going to be able — whatever she does — to continue to be a leader and an incredibly positive force for the causes I care about and that she cares about all around the world.”

Apparently Hillary Clinton’s Smart Power and Charm Offensives over her four-year tenure at State did more than win friends among nations that were neglected and win back those that were alienated over eight years of the Bush administration.  It seems she has won domestic hearts as well.  Her approval rate has remained consistently high over these years, that we knew.

Hillary bloggers know that we must be very careful on the keyboard not to strike that key  to the left of “c” when typing about Mme. Secretary unless we intend to (and sometimes it was intentional).  But now it appears official.  Having been tapped by GQ Magazine to offer one nominee for their “100 Hottest Women of the 21st Century” issue, Seth Meyers of SNL named our Mme. Sexetary.  We agree!  She is hot!  She always has been.

Seth Meyers: Hillary Clinton ‘Getting Sexier Every Year’

The Huffington Post  |  By

“Saturday Night Live” Head Writer Seth Meyers was one of the male celebrities GQ tapped to nominate a woman to their “prestigious” list. His choice? Why, Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton, of course

“I think somebody who is getting sexier every year is Hillary Clinton. Every year she seems better at whatever she’s doing. By the end of the millennium, she’s gonna have it locked down,” Meyers writes in the February 2013 issue.

As you all know,  Hillary Clinton celebrated her 65th birthday today,  and while she was closed to the press according to her official daily schedule, the media found some very creative and entertaining ways to celebrate this milestone.   Here are a few of the very lovely “birthday cards” the media sent her today.

This birthday tribute from CBS News  is sweet and contains a little more footage from Haiti that we never got to see.  The embed code does not work here,  unfortunately.

Looking good: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who turns 65 Friday, speaks to participants of the Clinton Global Initiative meeting on Sept. 24 in New York City.

By Rina Raphael, TODAY

She’s a serious, well-respected and beloved U.S. Secretary of State, but that doesn’t mean Hillary Clinton doesn’t know how to cut loose and hit the dance floor.

Apart from the success and talent, one reason many adore Hillary, who turns 65 Friday, is that she isn’t afraid to show her fun, feminine side to the public. She’s also a fearless fashion risk-taker, having braved headbands, scrunchies and neon accessories in the last few years.

Happy Birthday, Hillary Clinton: Celebrate the Secretary of State’s Colorful Style (GALLERY)

Hillary Clinton turns 65 today, and to celebrate, we’re taking a look back at her much talked-about style over the years.

Though Clinton has stepped up her style since her headband-wearing White House days, she’s remained loyal to her signature standby: the pantsuit.

Not that she’s been afraid to mix it up — she’s done the power suit in just about every color.

HuffPo Style paid tribute to her fashions over her years in the public eye with a wonderful slideshow of 65 pictures for her 65 years.

Hillary Clinton’s Fashion: 65 Looks For 65 Years! (PHOTOS)

There’s no denying that 2012 was Hillary Clinton‘s Year Of Cool. There was the epic photo of the secretary of state fiddling with her Blackberry while wearing sunglasses and the subsequent “Texts from Hillary” meme. Then Hillary upped the ante by participating in the meme itself (she knows what “LOLZ” means!)… then went out partying in Colombia, dancing and taking swigs from a bottle of beer.

And she did it all in style. Hillary, who celebrates her 65th on Friday, has always had a distinct fashion sense, one that both incorporates trends (hello, giant glasses) and stays true to who she is (what up, pantsuits). Even when naysayers diss her scrunchies or critics question her no-makeup look, Hillz sticks to what works: tailored pants, structured jackets, statement jewelry, hair accessories and stunna shades.

First a h/t to Jim Livesey at Team Hillary Clinton ‘s Facebook page for posting  a link to this article and making me aware of it.  Another h/t to the author of the article, Chris Weigant for explaining why the signing of START 2010 was not the story of the day Thursday, which left me puzzled.  His take on this situation could also explain why even PBS did not mention last night the speech Hillary Clinton gave yesterday in Louisville explaining our nuclear posture, the rationale behind START,  and some of the important features of the treaty.  Having said all that, I want to thank Chris and Huffington Post for naming Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton

Most Impressive Democrat of the Week

While President Obama certainly signed an impressive treaty this week, we feel we have to give credit where credit is due, instead. Which is why, this week, we are awarding the Most Impressive Democrat Of The Week award to none other than Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Because this treaty is not only a stunning achievement for the president, it is also an enormous accomplishment for Clinton, who now joins the ranks of our most effective Secretaries of State in modern times. Hillary Clinton’s job description is to do this sort of thing, remember. And she produced a treaty for her boss to sign, showing she was indeed the right person chosen for this job. Clinton (and the State Department as a whole) produced an impressive accomplishment that her husband never even managed, when he was president.

Wow!  It does my heart good to see her get recognition in the media. One thing Hillary’s loyalists know is that she always cares more about getting the job done than about  getting the credit.  We accept that about her and love her for her selflessness.  But it is nice to see her appreciated for that very humility and work ethic.  TV cameras only showed her at a distance in the teensy bit of coverage they gave to the signing, but close up you could see the radiant happiness on her beautiful face, and yes she deserves Most Impressive, this week and every week!

I particularly like this parenthetical suggestion from Weigant at the end of his Hillary section.

[In keeping with her low profile, one assumes, the State Department has no public contact page for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Congratulate her instead on the White House contact page, to let her know you appreciate her efforts.]

Actually, she does have a contact page. You can also use this one.  I am leaving congratulations to her at both the State Department and the White House.
